AUPPERLE

I knew I wanted to be an artist when, at 7 years old, I saw a neighbor creating huge paintings of bumble bees in her basement for a local grocer, John Bee. I remember thinking, “Really, you can do this for a living!”

I started an art studio at 19 and worked professionally as a stained glass artist for many years. I continue to design and work in glass.

During Covid, I was fortunate enough to attend a Zoom art class for seniors through the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) taught by printmaking artist, Marianne Sadowski. This was my introduction to printmaking.

In my work here, I am experimenting with ways to deepen the “texture” of my prints, for example, by using aquatint or adding Chine Colle’ to my intaglio and relief prints. On my silkscreens, I have printed actual feathers on a flamingo and used an embossed wallpaper to create the destruction in “Can’t Find My Way Home”.
